To find “lingering ash” – which likely hold the key to ash conservation through selective breeding – requires searching areas after particular percentages of ash have been killed by EAB. The MaMA Monitoring Plots Network enables this determination to be made by tracking EAB-induced die-off of native ash in a rapidly expanding set of plots in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. To establish a plot (which is flexible in size and shape), you only need to have 40 mature native ash trees whose health you check once a year.
